Welcome to December

"There is a light that shines beyond all things on earth, beyond us all, beyond the heavens, beyond the highest, the very highest heavens.
This is the radiant light that shines in the heart of man."

Welcome to December.

The days are getting shorter and the nights longer. As we move toward the Winter Solstice and the darkest time of the year my thoughts keep being drawn to light.
Just notice as you are out in the evening all of the Christmas lights that are going up on homes and businesses. I see these as reminders of the light that resides within us. They also remind me of miracles, merriment and joy.
Think of the light in the sky that the wise men followed to the birthplace of the Christ child or the lights in the menorah that represent the miracle of oil lasting 8 nights.
This verse from the Chandogya Upanishad keeps coming into my mind as well:

"There is a light that shines beyond all things on earth,
beyond us all, beyond the heavens, beyond the highest, the very highest heavens.

This is the radiant light that shines in the heart of man."

When we become busy and distracted we forget that our true nature is light and that nothing in all the universe shines brighter than the light of Divinity that shines in our hearts.   My prayer for you this season is that you remember yourself as a being of light.

A later verse says:
"So in silence, we must direct our
deepest desires with prayers, faith, and vision to the Spirit, to realize our Self.

The Self that dwells in our hearts is the Self that can only be realized in the silence of understanding that we are but Spirit and that our minds and hearts must be truthful and pure, finding, beyond words, joy in the essence of our being."

Or as C.S. Lewis states, we are spiritual beings having a human experience. We, however, typically find ourselves as human beings trying to have a spiritual experience.

Give yourself the gift space and silence this season to shine your light.
