Rasayana: The Path to Juiciness
Welcome to September. Vacations are mostly over, kiddos are back in school and it is still super-hot here in Phoenix! A change of seasons seems so far away but it is the time to begin planning your Fall cleanse.
You may ask “Why would I need think about preparing for a fall cleanse when it was 109 degrees today?”. That is a great question. The reason we want to begin our planning now is because Fall comes quickly in the Valley. That wonderful coolness and crispness creeps into the air almost overnight. Suddenly our calendars fill with family, social and work obligations. We will find ourselves without any free time that isn't already committed to another person or activity. The result will be trying to fit amuch-needed cleanse into our now busy work and social life. I can tell you from personal experience that never goes well
The number one reason we experience an unsuccessful cleanse is we simply didn't make the time for it. The second reason people often struggle is we did not communicate with our family and friends this is what we are doing during these dates. Now is the day to make the time for yourself. The renewed you will thank you.
There is a specific reason we want to cleanse at the change of seasons. When cleansing at the end of Summer, we are extracting any lingering heat from our bodies that could dry us out once Fall arrives. Left untouched it will create an imbalance that may show itself through many expressions. Worry, anxiety, constipation, dry hair, skin and nails, gas, bloating and several other cold, dry and light symptoms are all common.
The major difference between a conventional cleanse and an Ayurvedic cleanse is an added final phase. Our tendency once we finish a cleanse is to jump right back into our life. In Ayurveda, after the detoxifying, we rebuild the tissues so that you don’t finish with a depleted system and weak digestion. If this final stage is skipped, then you will find yourself coming off your cleanse feeling lethargic, drained and weakened. This is not the outcome we want.
Ayurveda offers a great perspective on how to move back into our lives after taking the time to do some internal Body-Mind cleaning.
The therapy is called Rasayana chikista. “Rasa” is plasma, lymph, juice, taste, emotion and melody. There are many other powerful English words that describe the potency of Rasa. “Ayana” means path or transportation. When used correctly after cleansing, a rasayana regime will leave you feeling juicy, restored and ready to move through the winter ahead.
The therapies used in Rasayana help to decrease aging, increase strength, and assist us to live long and happy lives. It is so important to encourage healthy tissue rebuilding through proper herbs, oils, therapies and foods to create a calm mind and a strong body. This will strengthen our immune system, create a clarity of mind and promote longevity.
