July Summer Sweetness

Deep and nourishing sweetness comes from pure sources. We all love the sweet taste. It was the first taste we experienced as infants in the form of mothers milk. The sweet taste is not only found in processed sugar and fruits, but also some grains, oils and even meats.  Sweet counters the heat of Summer, this is why nature gives us a variety fruits, melons, and veggies that all contain a lot of the sweet taste. Mother Nature provides us with what will serve us best each season. But, the deepest and most satisfying form sweetness comes from devotion.

I just came back from spending two weeks with my Ashtanga teacher Tim Miller. He is devotion in motion. He reminds me and encourages his students to grow a devotional practice which will bring more sweetness into all of our lives. I, in turn, encourage you to find sweetness this summer by deepening your devotion.

While you are nourishing your soul please enjoy this recipe filled with love and the sweet taste.

I just love a nice light summer entree salad. Using orzo in the summertime is great to include the sweet taste of pasta and it is not heavy. The green beans are rich in potassium and have vitamin A  which provides antioxidants, carotenoids, and flavonoids to prevent the signs of aging. As an excellent source of vitamin K, these summer treats also help to improve complexion and prevent wrinkles. Corn contains vitamins C and B12, iron, folic acid, lycopene.

Corn is high in various antioxidants to help strengthen hair and lessen the loss. The basil is not only a natural anti-inflammatory to reduce pain but also high in antioxidants to naturally reduce stress and control diabetes. Lastly, the delicious pumpkin seed is a powerhouse of nutrients loaded with magnesium copper and zinc. Along with protein, they also contain plant compounds known as free-radical scavenging antioxidants, which give an added boost to your health.

What is an
Ayurvedic Consultation?

A typical Ayurvedic consultation begins with an extensive intake form that I have created. I like to receive these several days in advance so I can be prepared for our appointment. We will then schedule an interview and physical examination which typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. Given the findings and your current state of health, I will start you on a customized path to wellness. Using the principles of Ayurveda, we will develop a personalized and obtainable regiment of dietary/lifestyle/herbal protocols. After a few weeks of implementing the processes, we will meet again to review the results and discuss what next steps are appropriate. Given the changes noticed on your physical, emotional and spiritual levels we may continue the same routine or make tweaks as you begin your journey back to a balanced state.
