I See You, I love You

The Lord of Love is the one Self of all.
He/She is detached work, spiritual wisdom, and immortality.
Realize the Self hidden in the heart,
and cut the knot of ignorance here and now.

-Mundaka Upanishad

When we hear the word Self-love it can bring up a lot of emotions. These are emotions that range from "I can't love myself, that would be egoic" or "what is there to love about myself?" maybe, "Hot damn! I do love myself". We know we cannot truly and deeply love others until we truly and deeply love ourselves. But what does it mean to really experience Self-love? It is human nature to get caught up in the world of Maya or illusion. The world that is seen is also known as nature or form. We get stuck in the world of form, which is constantly changing. Stuck with the view of ourselves and others. This brings up our attachment to form. That is another whole sticky subject. What we are attached to will eventually create suffering due to the fact it is of the changing world and will change or end at some point. That is one of the laws of nature I continue to learn.

Now when I say form I am speaking of what we see with our physical eyes. What if we started to deepen our vision to really SEE? And what is it that started us really seeing our true selves? Understanding not just mentally but really feeling we are spiritual beings having a human experience and not human beings having a spiritual experience. Think how that would change our outlook. Would that increase our compassion towards ourselves and allow the space for a natural evolution to expand a feeling of compassion for others?

What if every morning before checking emails, facebook, news, or whatever distraction pulls us away from the Self, instead you looked at yourself in the mirror, dead in the eyes (the window to the soul) and said: "I see you and love you"? Don't start looking for blackheads or notice the eyebrows could use a plucking. These things are just "form" which is always changing and distracting. Do this for a bit then see if you can take that love and start to look at others in the eyes and see the Self in them. If we all started looking past the form and started to see, I mean really see each other then maybe healing could happen. Defenses could be dropped and we could really see the light that each and every one of us carries within.

I see you and I love you.

Happy May!
