Happy September
Hi Friends,
Happy September.
We are coming to the end of a long, tumultuous summer.
Social tensions have been at an all-time high. Now it seems mother nature is showing her protest. We have hurricanes in the Southeast and fires in the Northwest. These physical landscapes will be marred for years and people’s lives changed forever.
The residual effects of these traumatic times can affect everyone. The vibrational energy of devastation, destruction, political upheaval and social imbalance often causes constriction in anyone’s mind and body who is aware of the events. Obviously, those directly impacted will suffer from this negative energy immediately. I too, along with many of my clients, am feeling an impact on my mind and body as well. This is a time to remember that we all are one.
Whoa! Didn’t mean to start off so heavy this month. Back to Ayurveda. The Seasons of fall and early winter are considered Vata time of year. Space and air are the two elements that make up the dosha of Vata. If there is not enough space we become restricted filled with worry, fear, and anxiety. On the other hand, with too much one becomes spacey and ungrounded. Do you see much of this around you or in the mirror?
In Ayurveda, we are taught to apply the opposite quality to balance out a problem. If there is too much heat we apply cool, too much heaviness we apply lightness. If there is constriction we want to create space. I invite you, to consciously set aside some grounding time and create some space for yourself as we move into fall.
We can gently do this through loving nourishment. This is the main key to holding space. If we are dry, depleted, ungrounded, cold, and constricted we do not have an adequate container to hold a balanced amount of space in our lives.
We can create space in our lives by giving ourselves the gift of self-care. Making time for daily practices, food (you know I love my food), the breath and healthy physical live/work places. I invite you to dive deep into this type of nourishment. You will create a container to hold a balanced amount of space.
On the emotional front, increasing our ability to love is the deepest form of nourishment.
That needs to begin with loving ourselves.
Where can you make space for self-care this fall?
I invite you to enjoy this nourishing super simple recipe to create a deep sense of satisfaction. Take time each day to breathe deep, stretch your tissues, calm your mind, eat well and open your heart.
