INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup organic grass fed whole milk yogurt

  • 4 cups purified water

  • 1 teaspoon ghee

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric

*TIP: Adding curry leaves, cumin seed, or cilantro is delicious!

DIRECTIONS

  • Put the yogurt and water in a medium-sized mixing bowl and mix well. The butter will begin to separate from the curd. Pour through a mesh strainer. Any lumps that are left save to make ghee. Set the liquid to the side.

  • Melt the ghee in a thick-bottomed saucepan over medium heat.

  • Add the mustard seeds and wait for them to pop. As soon as you hear the popping sound add the turmeric curry or cumin if you are using them, and swish in the pan. Pour the strained liquid and heat gently.

  • Be sure not to bring the mixture to a boil. When the buttermilk is warm remove from heat and serve.

  •  If you add cilantro, do this as the last step and stir it in just before serving.
